Sheep
We have chosen two old and hardy breeds, the local Poll Dorset and the Lleyn, a Welsh lowland breed from the Lleyn Peninsular. Both breeds are run as ‘closed’ flocks, meaning no new sheep are brought on to the farm, thereby minimising disease introduction and allowing us to breed our own replacements to maintain flock size.
The Poll Dorset is a ‘teddy bear’ looking sheep, and it has the unusual ability to be able to lamb in the autumn. We breed the Dorset pure and are unusually able to offer spring lamb from as early as the end of March onwards.
The Lleyn sheep lamb in the spring, they are a hardy, prolific breed, with a strong maternal instinct. We breed some pure, and some are crossed with a Hampshire Down or a Texel ram to give a slightly improved carcass.
The sheep are grazed over a range of pastures, and eat a wide range of clover, grasses, herbs, and flowers.
We are able to offer organic lamb throughout the year and can also supply hoggets (over a year old), and mutton (over two years old).
